Inside This Japandi-Style 4BHK by Tesor Design in Bengaluru

Share

At Tesor Design, every home we create tells a story—crafted with detail, rooted in intention, and reflective of the people who live in it. One of our recent interior design projects in Bengaluru—what we fondly call The Zen Home—was no different.
This 4BHK apartment for a young couple and their child was designed around simplicity, soul, and soft minimalism. The brief? To create a home that felt open and warm, deeply personal yet refreshingly neutral. With the Japandi style as our north star—a seamless blend of Japanese sensibility and Scandinavian calm—we began shaping a space that balances function with feeling, structure with softness.

Designing with Purpose: Understanding the Vision

Palak and Gaurav came to us with a clear idea: they didn’t want excess. As working professionals—a chemistry teacher and a product manager—they longed for an uncluttered, intentional home that could keep pace with their lifestyle while still offering peace at the end of the day.

Our approach to interior design always starts with listening. We understood their need for a natural flow, an organised layout, and muted tones that evoke calm. The couple didn’t just want a space to live in—they wanted a space that lived well with them.

The Entryway
Stepping into the apartment, you're greeted by a small, understated foyer—complete with a simple shoe console, pendant light, and clean mirror detailing. Here, we used warm wooden rafters on the ceiling to subtly define the entry zone. It’s not a grand space, but it immediately sets the tone—inviting, grounded, and soft on the senses.

Living Room Design: Neutrals That Speak Volumes

The living room, drenched in subtle textures and warm lighting, reflects the Japandi design ethos beautifully. Clean lines meet soft materials—rattan, matte-finish vitrified tiles, and a calm wall texture sourced from Asian Paints.

We retained and refurbished some of the family’s old furniture, including the sofas and dining table. A fresh layer of polish, new cushions, and a thoughtful layout turned them into design elements that feel completely new. This mix of old and new is something we love weaving into our interior design narrative—it makes a space feel lived-in and loved.

To create separation between the open-plan living and dining zones, we used simple ceiling grooves and a delicate play of arches and fluted forms. These subtle details help define the space without adding bulk.

Kitchen Design:

Japandi kitchens are all about restraint—clean, thoughtful, and highly functional. This one is no exception. We used a white and light wood palette to open up the kitchen visually, making it feel larger and more breathable.

Details like grooved shutters, fluted glass cabinets, and a muted backsplash bring in layers of texture. Every cabinet, corner, and handle was custom-designed at our in-house factory to match the overall look and feel. This level of precision is what sets Tesor Design apart—we don't just install kitchens, we curate them.

Master Bedroom: A Soft Sanctuary

The master bedroom is where the design comes full circle. Soft sheers, rattan headboards, muted walls, and a herringbone wooden floor create a cocoon-like effect. Here, we chose minimal furniture and used custom lighting to make the space feel elevated without being loud.

A key design decision was to keep the ceiling simple, with only subtle moulding to maintain the clean look. The wall behind the bed features an arched concrete texture that adds depth while keeping with the Japandi palette.

Every furnishing, down to the throws and cushions, was handpicked or crafted at our 20,000 sq. ft. factory—ensuring material quality, consistency, and a finish that aligns with our brand’s luxury aesthetic.

Kids’ Room:

Designing a child’s room in a minimal home is always a challenge—but one we love. In this project, we kept the colour palette soft with neutral walls and custom wallpaper. We brought in fun through mustard cushions, rugs, and a clever study unit designed for online classes.

The goal was to design a space that would grow with the child—not something that would need to be reworked in a year. With flexible furniture and multi-functional storage, we created a space that feels joyful and practical all at once.

The Study: Clean, Sharp, and Work-Ready

For two working parents, a study that blends seamlessly into the home was a must. Here, we introduced a sleek black study unit with fluted glass shutters, paired with a minimalist oak-toned table. It doesn’t scream “office,” but it gets the job done—quietly, stylishly.

Why This Home Stands Out

What makes this Bengaluru home special isn't just the aesthetic—it’s how every room flows into the next, how every element has a reason to be there. It’s not maximal or trendy. It’s intentional. It’s crafted. It’s calm.

This is what Tesor Design does best. We don’t chase trends—we design for how you live. Every element, from bespoke furniture to the lighting layout, is created under one roof at our factory. It gives us control over timelines, materials, and, most importantly, quality.

For us, this project was more than just about Japandi interiors or minimalist design—it was about delivering peace in the form of a home. Every material, every finish, every corner was imagined to serve a purpose and deliver joy.

As designers, the most satisfying part of the journey is walking through the space at the end—and seeing it feel exactly like the family we built it for. That’s when we know we’ve done our job.
