This Bangalore Apartment Is Proof That Vastu Can Look Like Art

Share

Designing a home isn’t just about picking the right furniture or paint swatches — it’s about translating a way of life into a space. That’s what we set out to do with this 1,650-square-foot apartment in Bengaluru: create a home that seamlessly blends Vastu-compliant design with contemporary aesthetics, generous storage, and intentional colour.

What started as a conversation with a young nuclear family soon became one of our most detailed and rewarding projects — and one that’s quietly caught the attention of some of the most trusted voices in Indian design media.

The Brief: Function-Forward, With Soul

The family came to us with a clear vision. They wanted their home to be minimal, modern and functional, but not clinical. Every corner needed to work hard — from smart storage solutions in compact rooms to layouts that felt open without sacrificing warmth. And while function was the heart of the brief, there was one more non-negotiable: the home had to be Vastu-approved, right down to the colour palette.

This made our job more exciting, not restrictive. We believe that constraints often spark the best creativity — and in this case, Vastu became the framework around which we crafted something unique, layered and personal.

Walking In: A Thoughtful First Impression

The home opens into a foyer that acts as a quiet pause before you step into the main living space. We kept it clean and minimal — a fluted glass partition, duco wall panelling, functional seating with concealed shoe storage — everything subtle but intentional. A handpicked artwork anchors the zone, offering a glimpse of the visual rhythm that unfolds across the rest of the home.

The Living + Dining Space: Calm, Connected, and Cleverly Zoned

The living room’s centrepiece is a TV unit we’re particularly proud of — a mix of wooden rafters, raw concrete laminate, and a delicate pastel green that brings both freshness and calm. The pastel tone wasn’t just a design choice; it aligned with Vastu, creating both balance and brightness in the space.

Next to it sits a bespoke puja unit, seamlessly integrated but distinct in spirit. Arched glass doors and backlit shelving tie everything together, creating quiet elegance without overwhelming the eye.

In the open kitchen, we continued the green accents through handmade backsplash tiles, allowing visual continuity with the living space. While the kitchen appears compact at first glance, it was designed with storage as a top priority — we measured every appliance and even the client’s container sizes to create a truly customised, ergonomic layout. Every inch was maximised, every drawer purposeful.

The adjacent dining corner features arched mouldings with dual-tone paint, finished with a fluted ceiling and a modern chandelier. It’s a soft but defined zone — styled, not styled-over.

Colour Meets Compliance: Designing with Vastu in Mind

Vastu often comes with its own palette — and for the master bedroom, the brief was to work within the red spectrum. Instead of leaning into earthy tones, we decided to be bold: a magenta accent wall with minimal square detailing. It was a risk, but it paid off. The rest of the room remained neutral to let the statement wall shine.

In the guest bedroom, the challenge was light — or rather, the lack of it. Since darker Vastu-friendly colours were off-limits and the room didn’t receive natural light, we kept it crisp with an off-white wall, subtle wallpaper-filled beadings, and a pristine duco wardrobe. A bay seater by the window added softness and comfort.

The kids’ bedroom came with a brief we hear often: pink, but not childish. The room also needed to fit a queen-sized trundle bed, a dual study setup, and a full wardrobe — all in a small footprint. Since Vastu ruled out bunk beds, we designed a trundle bed that could tuck away when not in use, opening up room for two workstations. The space feels light, pretty, and packed with purpose — finished with wallpaper, dusty pink fluted panels, and hidden storage.

The Beauty of Balance

What we love most about this home is how every room carries its own identity — but the overall flow never feels disjointed. That’s the beauty of thoughtful design. Even though each space is tailored to its own function and Vastu guideline, the home feels whole. Cohesive. Lived-in. Loved.

And while we don’t design for recognition, it’s always meaningful when our work resonates beyond the walls it was created for. This home was recently featured in Architectural Digest India, and we couldn’t be more grateful. It’s not just a nod to the final look, but to the effort, emotion, and intention that went into every detail — from the very first sketch to the last layer of styling.

More Than a Design Studio

At Tesor Designs, we approach every project — whether it’s a home, a restaurant, or a boutique workspace — with the same mindset: design should not just be beautiful; it should be deeply personal. We listen first, then build. Our goal is never to impose a style — it’s to uncover it with you, layer by layer.

If you’re searching for an interior design studio in Bangalore that understands both your needs and your lifestyle — from Vastu-based colour palettes to space planning and bespoke furniture — we’d love to hear your story.

Because good design isn’t about trends. It’s about trust, intuition, and building something that lasts.
